Sysarb Job architecture - Pay ranges

Pay range, salary range, min, midpoint, max, job architecture

Written by Miranda Skogsberg

This guide describes the Pay ranges view in the job architecture. Here you can set pay ranges for each level, or for smaller groups within a level (for example legal entity, location or job family), and compare them with the salaries actually paid today.

Pay ranges

Your levels are grouped by country and salary type, for example Sweden (Salary type: Monthly salary). Click the arrow next to a country to expand or collapse its grades.

For each grade, the following is shown:

  • Pay range – Min, Midpoint and Max for the grade

  • Actual salaries – by default, the 10th percentile, Median and 90th percentile for employees at the grade

  • Comment – a column for your own notes about the grade. Click the field and type, and the text is saved automatically.

💡 Tip: To see more values under Actual salaries, click the Edit columns icon in the top right corner and choose which columns to display.

💡 Tip: Compare the pay range with the columns under Actual salaries. This lets you quickly see whether the range matches today's salaries, and whether there are grades where salaries fall outside the range.

⚠️ Important: A dash (–) under Actual salaries means there is no salary data for the grade in that country.

The action bar

When you select one or more grades, a black action bar appears at the bottom of the view. The number of selected grades is shown on the far left.

Here you can choose between:

  • Add pay range – add a pay range for a specific group within the selected grades

  • Edit pay range – enter Min, Midpoint and Max manually

  • Apply... – calculate or adjust the pay range automatically

  • Clear selection – deselect all selected grades

  • The three dots (⋮) – clear or delete the pay range for the selected grades

Each function is described in more detail further down in this guide.

Add pay ranges per grade

There are two ways to add a pay range for a grade:

  • Directly in the row – enter the values for Min, Midpoint and Max manually, one grade at a time

  • Via the action bar – select one or more grades and click Edit pay range or Apply...

Enter the pay range directly in the row

  1. Click the value under the Min, Midpoint or Max column for the grade you want to set a pay range for.

  2. Enter the value.

  3. Repeat for the other columns. The value is saved automatically.

💡 Tip: This method works well when you want to adjust individual values. If you need to set pay ranges for many grades at once, it is quicker to use the action bar.

Edit pay range

  1. Select the level or grades you want to edit.

  2. Click Edit pay range in the action bar.

  3. Enter Min, Midpoint and Max.

  4. Click Apply.

The updated grades are highlighted in green and the message Pay range has been updated is displayed.

Calculate pay ranges with Apply

  1. Select the levels you want to calculate or adjust pay ranges for.

  2. Click Apply... in the action bar.

  3. Choose one of the options:

    • Select pay range spread from actual median – calculates the pay range based on the median of the actual salaries at the level

    • Set pay range spread from midpoint – sets min and max at a percentage distance from the midpoint. Enter the spread as a percentage in the Midpoint ± field.

    • Apply a percentage increase or decrease – raises or lowers existing pay ranges. Enter the change as a percentage.

    • Convert to another salary type – recalculates the pay range to another salary type

  4. Click Apply.

The updated levels are highlighted in green and a confirmation message is displayed, for example The pay range has been increased by 5%.

⚠️ Important: The spread from midpoint is based on the midpoint already set for the level. If the midpoint is 0, min and max will also be 0, so set a midpoint first.

Add pay ranges for a specific group

If you need different pay ranges within the same grade, you can set a separate pay range for a specific group within the grade.

  1. Click the plus sign (+) in the row for the grade you want to add a pay range for. The Add to: Grade X menu opens.

  2. Choose which group the pay range should apply to:

    • Legal entity

    • Location

    • Employment type

    • Career

    • Job family

    • Sub-family

    • Job profile

  3. Select one or more values in the list. Use (Select all) to select all of them.

  4. Click Add pay range.

  5. Enter the pay range for the group in the same way as for a grade, either directly in the row or using the options in the action bar.

💡 Tip: To add the same specific group to several grades at once, select the grades and click Add pay range in the action bar.

Clear or delete pay ranges

  1. Select the level or levels you want to change.

  2. Click the three dots (⋮) in the action bar.

  3. Choose one of the options:

    • Clear pay range – resets Min, Midpoint and Max. The level and any specific groups remain, so you can enter new values.

    • Delete pay range – removes the pay range. The level always remains, but any added specific groups are removed completely.

Filter pay ranges

You can use filters to get a more focused view of your pay ranges.

  1. Click Filter at the top left of the view.

  2. Choose which filter you want to use:

    • Country

    • Level

    • Legal entity

    • Location

    • Employment type

    • Career

    • Job family

    • Sub-family

    • Job profile

Country and Level are always available as filters. The other filters become available once you have added a pay range for that group.

⚠️ Important: If you can't see all countries or levels in the view, a filter may be active. Click Reset filters to show the full list.
